Couple more stray observations

-Everyone I talk to feels misunderstood. Everyone. Sometimes that’s justifiable and sometimes it isn’t but it’s true across a lot of different divides. I feel misunderstood, too, but that’s less important to me than it was.

-I’ve lost a lot of optimism but perhaps that’s a good thing. It’s not the same as despair. I like that people who aren’t normally political are trying to figure out what it means to be engaged. I like that we don’t want harm to come to the country or the world or each other. I like that we don’t want to be thought of as racists or sexists even when we absolutely are racist or sexist.

-Wikipedia has an okay translation of The Grand Inquisitor, a chapter from The Brothers Karamazov in which one character tells another a story about Jesus being put on trial for all the evil in the world. It’s here:

-Here’s the author of Ecclesiastes: “He hath made everything beautiful in its time.
